I’ve been putting a site together using Business Directory and it’s been very easy to work with and I really like the results. I have run into some issues however probably due in large part to my inexperience.
(1) I installed Coupon Creator but the short code only works when entered into the business description field (the large area with all the editing icons – like where I’m entering this post). I tried creating a new field specifying text field and text area but neither worked with the short code. I really don’t want to put it in the business description area but are there any alternatives, upgrades or work-arounds? I like Coupon Creator because it’s simple to configure and implement but is there something better suited to use with Business Directory?
(2) “View Listings” only allows two pages of listing to be displayed. Clicking NEXT on the second page just displays the second page again. I tried this repeatedly with the same result. Do I have something set wrong somewhere? In the meantime, I removed the button.
Any help with these two issues will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
1) We don’t have any specific integration with Coupon Creator, so I can’t speak to this. If it works in a field, great. If not, I don’t know why off hand. I’m not even sure what the error is, although it would probably be best to ask them about it. They would know more.
2) On the View Listings issue, have you ruled out a plugin conflict? http://businessdirectoryplugin…..s-with-bd/
Are you using a pagination plugin?
With the shortcode it just displays as the shortcode verbatim (“[shortcode]”) and does nothing. So no error, it just doesn’t work in those fields. So I guess the question is: what fields of a listing will a shortcode work?
With the view listings, I don’t have any pagination plugins. In fact, at the time I had minimal plugins just Business Directory and Jetpack. I don’t even have much more than that now.
Anyway, thanks for getting back to me.
Ah, I understand now. Yes, the shortcodes will NOT resolve inside the fields of BD. BD’s fields are not inside the normal WordPress processing loop. Short codes only work on pages or posts directly.
Ok, before I screw anything up I thought I better ask if this is possible without negative consequence. Since the shortcodes only work in the detailed description field and I’m not really using the (short) description field could I make the (short) description field required and hide the detailed description field. I understand that only text can be put in the description field. But if this works I could rename and use the detailed description field for coupons via shortcodes. Also, is there a character limitation for the description field? Thanks!
