I am not sure what setting I have incorrect or if there is an error. I have two listings in the directory and they show up twice above me header and then in the body. How do I remove them from above the header?>
thanks for taking time to look at this
I do have sfc plugins running they are facebook plugins
I'm also having a problem with the buttons such as submit now not rending correctly in chrome and firefox. they look blurry and distorted
At this time I cannot recommend using the “Simple Facebook Connect” plugin for the following reasons:
– The plugins are not programmed according to latest wordpress functionality, and as a result are not playing nice with wordpress and other plugins.
– The “SFC Like” plugin in particular is responsible for repeating content due to bad programming.
Until SFC plugin has resolved these issues, I would recommend moving to a different Facebook plugin.
Sorry for the bad news, but this issue current can't be fixed by changing WPBDM code. 🙁
I asked Otto ( the developer of sfc connect) to take a look at the problem. I'm not a programmer and would only like to get the plugins to play nice.
he responded as follows,
“I'm afraid that the other developer is incorrect. The SFC plugins are correctly written and used on numerous sites, including wordpress.org itself. (Disclaimer: I work for Matt Mullenweg, and I work directly on the wordpress.org code).
His issue with “repeating content” is because his own plugin is programmed incorrectly. Specifically, he's using a shortcode or some other form of system that expects “the_content” to only be executed once per page. This is not the case, as the_content filter can indeed be executed multiple times per page.
It's a fairly common mistake for novice WordPress developers to make. Shortcodes and filters, by design, should only return text, not produce output or take non-repeatable actions. His flaw is in producing some form of action that causes an issue when it repeats on the page.
The SFC-like button does indeed run the_content filter early. This is intentional, as it needs to get the content in order to produce Facebook meta data in the head of the page. To do that, it examines the content, including any content produced by other plugins. This does rely on other plugins doing the right thing and only returning text and such from filter calls. Poorly written plugins that take non-repeatable actions during a filter or shortcode call will fail to behave properly.
So I'm sorry to say that the fault is in his plugin, not mine.
If you have anyway of working things out with Otto's plugin it sure would be great.
Thanks for taking the initiative. I seemed to have phrased my last response poorly. I apologize for that. I should have said that the plugins seem to conflict.
I also don't mean to be speaking for the WPBDM developer, as I am merely trying to help out. And, lastly, yes, I am a novice WP developer (but not novice developer). 🙁 Looks like that was a bad day for me.
I will revisit Otto's comments, and will follow up on what he said. Chances are, of course, that he's right. What he says does make sense, and I will do my best to wrap my head around it and see if we can't get this fixed.
As the developer of the plugin I would like to thank Mike for his efforts not only in contributing to help me keep the plugin in development but in trying to help on the forums as well. I wish I had been able to prevent the embarrassing situation of publicly questioning the development skills of such a well respected WordPress developer as Otto, but I have been absent from the boards for a while and my absence will continue indefinitely. I am not, however, absent behind the scenes; and I take full responsibility for any errors in the code. Every effort will be made to get the problem fixed as soon as possible.
So, has the issue been resolved regarding the original topic of this post? I am using WP version 3.3.2 and the newest version of your directory plugin. I don't have any other plugins loaded and I'm having the same problem as the original topic: Error: Directory Posting at top of page and in body. I am using blogolife Pro theme and here is a link to my directory: http://sebastiancityguide.com/…..directory/
I cannot upgrade to pro until I know this directory is going to work. Thanks
