I have BD V Version 5.5.3
I have WP V 5.0.4
I imported a list of cities as regions ( i thought I imported every city in the USA) but obviously, I must not have… or there was an error or something… you will see as I further explain…
I set up from wp about 5 test listings, I then did an export to get all my form-fields correct. I used this for my “headers” for my database to import.
next, I imported all my listings a few weeks ago. I imported about 1,000 at a time. I saved each excel file as CSV files, I tested each file prior to import, if i had any errors i corrected them until my test import had no errors, I then immediately did the import. I thought all was fine. I imported over 8,000 listings
Then I had someone looking at joining my website point out to me I had some listings in the same zip code that said they were in different states… he had checked his local zip code… and upon inspection, I had HUNDREDS of hundreds probably thousands of listings that were screwed up… they either had the wrong state or no city, but all had the correct zip code.
so I exported all my listings. I downloaded a file from USPS to make sure I had correct state and city for every zip code. I checked and corrected all 8,647 listings.
I realized a few things during this process… 1. that the listings with zip codes that start with ZERO … no longer had a ZERO… I had changed the column to a zip code format, but I guess when saving to a CSV file it dropped the format.
I found instructions on changing the zip code column to a text format and saving that way… and I did a test with only 3 listings that had previous errors in them. when I did the import the zip codes got corrected however the regions did not get corrected.
The next thing I noticed was that I had so many cities missing… (and I checked and made sure all my states and cities were completed prior to my original import… so I knew they should have been there) but I’m seeing that I don’t have a region set for these missing cities….. or I’m seeing that there is another city with the same name in A DIFFERENT state… and the system somehow had given the listing that other state, I guess because the “cities” region matched…. so again… I have corrected all 8,647 listings so I can re-import and correct everything.
I have 3 listings I tried to test first, these had zip codes beginning with ZERO and 2 of the 3 had wrong states, one had a missing city. I did not correct my regions.
so I then deleted the existing listing thru wp / bd / listings and deleted it permanently from the trash also… tried to do the import again and it still has not corrected the regions…
please help. please tell me what to do to correct this!
is there a known issue with multiple states that have cities with the same name? please advise… I have worked on this for MANY MANY MANY HOURS correcting my database and now it isn’t correcting the listings.
is there a file in my wp-file manager I can “de-activate” by re-naming and import an entirely new database with the correct regions? because “correcting” existing doesn’t seem to happen.
thank you. please help asap… I have spent a tone of advertising launching my site… and I have all these listings wrong… I was so careful… I don’t know how it happened… but I need to fix it asap…
I’m so sorry to see you running into this issue.
Unfortunately, we don’t have any special functionality in place to handle duplicate region names. So if you have cities with the same name in different states then it can confuse Regions module and result into incorrect region-listing association during CSV import. However, as an admin, you can always manually edit those listings from your WP backend and connect to the correct region.
If you wish to delete all listings and start over fresh then one method is to use the Bulk Options found on your backend directory page to delete listings in bulk. Other option is to delete listings in bulk via SQL directly from your database. Instructions are provided here:
