Last update 2.0.3 strips html from the textarea form field or it doesn't allow it anymore. I need to be able to add html here. Can you tell me which file now controls this behavior so I can edit it? Or at least incorporate a way that allows the admin to allow html or not in the backend. I can't use the update until then as it now shows my coded html in those fields.
Sorry that it broke for you. We had to use a UTF-8 function to validate the description for non-ASCII characters and I suspect that did it.
We're going to support HTML in the description field for another release, but we need to fix the renewals and images first.
Video embeds are a different animal altogether. WordPress supports using the shortcode and we have it on the list to add this as well, although not in the next patch at the moment.
I would try this out on your site and see if you experience the issue. You can always downgrade to 2.0.2 and use the HTML if you like in the meantime while we fix this.
Thanks for the reply. We exchanged messages before and you said that the YouTube embed should work in the description field. It did. I don't think basic html text commands such as boldfacing worked in that field at that time.
Will the YouTube embeds no longer work due to changes in this latest version of the software? Or is that an unknown? (Hoping this is not a choice between having the listings display issues continue and having video.)
I really don't want to upgrade and downgrade versions if it can be helped. Thank you.
It's an unknown. We had to change form saving and validation functions in our WP API because they were not compatible with UTF-8 and causes problems with non-ASCII sites. I would try it and see what happens. Report back if it's a problem and we'll see what we can do.
Are you referring to the embed stripping or the HTML? The embeds seem to work as long as you stick to the whitelist of WP allowed video sites. This is on 22.214.171.124.
So I tested this and you can do it, but only from the admin side.
When you submit or edit a listing, if you click on the HTML tab of the long description, you can put in whatever you want. But doing it from the user side strips out the tags completely.
Great plugin!! but I noticed that also you can embed a youtube video using Long Description in the admin but as soon as the user updates the front end Manage Listing page it converts it to text. This is a big drawback for our requirements.
Are there any plans to allow html embedding in a ‘text field' or similar so we can embed YouTube or Vimeo videos?
Has this been fixed yet? I need to use embed to display a booking calendar and it is in the code, but does not display on the front end. All listings have been uploaded by me, the admin, not another user.
What is the exact code you're putting in the description field right now?
I don't remember if we had time to handle the HTML issue or not…off hand, I'd say no.
Not to jump in and answer the question for the original poster, but this is something that I am looking for as well. I have tried html in the basic <a href=””>text</a> with only anchor text, and with an image and neither of the two worked. I have not tried it since the new update since it was said that it was not fixed. It is not a huge deal, but it does make the pages look nicer when you can use an image or anchor text since some facebook links and such get really long and crazy.
Hello all, sorry to bump such an old thread. I saw on another thread that you have a few majors things in the works, and I am really looking forward to them. I was wondering you had been able to fix this yet? If not is this going to be included in one of the updates. Thanks for everything you do for us.
It appears that HTML is still being stripped from long and short description (I just tested on 126.96.36.199, the latest release).
I will look into when we can re-enable it. Part of the reason it was stripped is that we've standardized on WP post functions and they strip HTML automatically for us, so we need to look at how to work around these, but only when the user wants to.
