I’m running WP 4.9.3 with BDP 5.1.2, and the auto-generated emails seem to have stopped working. I’ve set up a load of directory entries to expire at the end of July, with an email template to send out 1 month before listings expire. it’s worked fine for the last two years, but this year, no emails got generated. I’ve tried going into an entry and clicking “send renewal email”, which sends the template for when the listing actually expires, and that worked fine. I’ve checked the mail server logs, and no emails seem to have been generated (apart from the “send renewal email” one). I’m not sure what else to check. Any ideas would be very welcome. Thanks.
So sorry to hear about this issue. You seem to be running an old version of BD plugin because we did fix an error in renewal email in BD v 5.1.6. I would suggest that you please upgrade to the latest BD v 5.5.7 and then test again. For example, you can set the reminder to be sent 2 weeks before expiration and check if they actually go out.
Also this time, try using Email Logging Plugin: https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-mail-logging/
This plugin allows you to trace all emails sent through your WordPress site, including those sent by BD plugin. This verifies that BD plugin is sending your email as you expect. This is an excellent place to start when debugging email issues. It at least tells you what is happening when you send something. What happens after that depends very much on your server/web host configuration. Let me know if you need any further help on this!
Thanks for the quick reply. Can you give me more details of the bug that was fixed, so I can see if it’s likely to be the same problem?
Re: debugging – as I have access to the mail server logs, which show that WP did not even try to send these emails, what information would be added from the extra plugin?
Unfortunately, I don’t have the exact details on hand as that particular version was released back in Jan, 2018.
If the plugin didn’t even try to send out emails then there could be an issue we can investigate. However, I’d strongly recommend that you upgrade to the latest version and test before we dig into this any deeper. Thanks for your understanding.
