I’m confused as to why I seem to be able to allow the public to edit listings (why would I want to let anyone in the world edit information on someone else’s business listing?), but I don’t seem to be able to find a clean way to allow a business owner to edit his own listing details. Perhaps I am misunderstanding what this plugin is for?
I want a business owner listed in the directory to be able to edit his own listing and not anyone else’s. Is an access key the only way to do this? If so, why is a login form on the same page as the access key page? If I log in, I can’t edit a listing anyway. I only seem to be able to edit a listing if I am:
1. not logged in
2. do not try to log in. If I do log in, I only get a message that says I’m not able to edit the listing.
3. In possession of an access key.
Is this accurate? If I request an access key, am I able to edit any listing on the site? If so, this feature is totally confusing to me, because I don’t want one business owner to be able to edit someone else’s listing. I can’t imagine why I would want to allow that. Maybe I’m misunderstanding this plugin entirely.
What is the best way for me to tell a business owner how to edit their listing details? If I turn the feature off which makes the editing function available to the public, the feature disappears entirely. It seems like I have to allow people to be able to edit any listing on the site or none at all. This blows my mind. What the heck am I missing? lol
Any insight is much appreciated. I’m happy to provide access to the site or whatever is needed. I’ve literally gone through all documentation and searched the forum for hours. I’ve gone through every setting page and can’t seem to figure out how to do this.
I am happy to help here!
BD plugin allows users to edit only their own listings, whether they are using an access key or they’re logged in using the conventional login form. Being able to edit someone else’s listings would be catastrophic. Only a user with admin privileges can do this.
A better option to allow users to edit their listings is to use the “manage listing” shortcode (http://docs.businessdirectoryp…..e-listings) on a page. That way, users can go to that page and view/edit their listings directly from there.
Please let me know if it helps!
