We have a slight issue with the email templates we created to warn Members that their listing is about to expire. We set it at 2 weeks and then 1 week prior to expiration. No email warnings have been sent, and ‘Their listing expired or is about to expire’ option is checked for it to send. Am I missing something?
Sorry to hear about this. What version of WP and BD plugin do you have? Can you please share a screenshot showing the page where you have ‘Their listing expired or is about to expire’ options checked? (use https://imgur.com/)
And can you please tell how did you check that no email notice has been sent?
Thank you for writing. We have:
WP Version 5.4.2
BD Version 5.7
You can modify the text template used for most of these e-mails in the Templates tab.
Thank you for sharing this information.
For email issues, we recommend you go through the suggestions provided in following AWPCP article about debugging email problems, as most of it applies to BD as well:
The Email Logging Plugin is an excellent place to start when debugging email issues. Most of the times, the server is getting blocked by outside relays so your hosting need to modify the SPF and MX records for their domain since their domain emails could be the ones being ignored/lost. Without valid SPF records, most email relay servers will drop the email completely.
Hi, thank you for answering and for your suggestion.
We have installed the email log, and can confirm that BD sends emails notifying us of new listings, and the business of their submission as well as their Published listing. The notification for an expired listing wasn’t sent, and we are still trying to figure out that part.
Thank you again.
Just to confirm, is your directory in PAID mode? In other words, those listings that have expired or about to expire, are they attached to some fee plan?
Also, were you receiving the expiration notices in the past?
I’d also suggest you run a conflict test to see if that tells anything. Here is an article about how to test for theme and plugin conflicts with Business Directory, which may help pinpoint the issue:
Please let me know.
We reloaded the BD onto a test server and turned on the Hemingway theme. We set up a few listings, and then expired them manually from the admin. In the WP Mail Log plugin, It immediately sent expiration notices to all of the listings we had expired and these notifications were received.
We tested this on the production server. We disabled all the plugins except BD and the Mail logger, then expired a listing. It did not send a notification according to the WP Mail Log plugin, nor was a notification received.
We re-published that listing and re-activated all the plugins on the production server. It did send a notification for publication of that listing that was both logged and received. It seems inconsistent behavior given it sent a notification for publishing, but not for expiring.
