I have installed this great plugin on 2 websites I am developing, one of which is a personal project and I am considering buying the premium modules for myself.
For the other site, I would like to know how to add the “latest 3 listings” on the home page.
I have styled quite a bit of the directory to how I want it but on the home page, it’s the usual welcome, this is what we do, and underneath I would like to say here are the latest companies on offer.
So what can I add to this source of this home page, to display the latest few listings from any category?
You can achieve this by adding the “Business Directory-Latest listings” widget to your home page. Go into Appearance section and look for it under Widgets.
Hope it helps
Thanks for this, I have found the widget. But for this to work, I would have to add a widget area to within the main container of my home page and am unsure how to do this.
I can post a topic on the wordpress support forums to ask for advice regarding this but if you know how this is to be done or know of an alternative way, i would appreciate your support.
Further to previous reply, I have got this working using this fab tutorial here.
Now one more thing, the widget only gives me the title of the listing, I would like to see the whole excerpt as it would be in the sub-categories listing page.
Using the widget, this won’t be possible unless you change the query to pull back more data and format it as you want. This might require some debugging and hacking.
Thanks for your reply. Is there another way of displaying this data, perhaps without the widget ie. having a query in my source for my home page that would pull in and display the last x number of listings from all categories, similar to how you display the last x number of posts within a particular category on a wordpress page template.
To get this result, you will have to look at the widget code, pull out the relevant query and then manually inject that into the desired target page. It may not work, because the widget has certain context that we’ve initialized, so you may need to work it out through some debugging and coding.
