When managing your directory, you may want to control the order in which taxonomies such as categories, tags, and regions are displayed. By default, WordPress arranges these items alphabetically, which might not always fit the structure or user experience you want for your directory. This guide will walk you through how to change the display order of your directory taxonomies using the Custom Taxonomy Order plugin.

Note: The Custom Taxonomy Order plugin is a third-party tool that works alongside Business Directory Plugin. This plugin is maintained and supported by its author, not by the Business Directory Plugin team.

Installing the Custom Taxonomy Order Plugin

To reorder your Business Directory Plugin taxonomies, you’ll first need to install the Custom Taxonomy Order plugin. Follow these steps:

1. Log in to your WordPress admin dashboard.
2. Go to Plugins → Add New.
3. In the search bar, type Custom Taxonomy Order.
4. Locate the plugin named Custom Taxonomy Order (by Marcel Pol) and click Install Now.
5. Once installed, click Activate to enable the plugin.

Changing the Taxonomy Order

Here is how you can change the order of directory categories, tags, and region taxonomies.

In your WordPress dashboard, navigate to Tools → Term Order. Here, you can change the order for any taxonomy on your site.

Select Directory Categories, Directory Tags, or Directory Regions.

From here, you can drag and drop the items into any custom order. If you do use a custom order, make sure to select the Custom Order as defined above to apply the custom order.
