Assuming you’ve done this step, log in to your WordPress dashboard to start. We’ll handle everything from one place to make things easy. Next, you’ll want to install and activate the Business Directory plugin from WordPress.

Step 1: Create a directory listing page
First things first, we’ll need a page to display our team members.

The other option is to create a page yourself, then use a piece of shortcode.

Step 2: Configure the meet the team WordPress plugin
To edit your settings, go to your WordPress admin, then find Directory → Settings.
We won’t need to change much here now. We do want to adjust the ability to submit a listing. After all, this is your team showcase, not a place for people to add their own.
So, now that you’re in Settings go to Listings → Buttons. Uncheck the ‘Show the “Submit listing” button.’
Also, we need to change the expiration date on the listing. As a default, it’s set to 365 days, but we want to change it to forever.
So, go to Directory → Plans → Free Listing. Then, choose “run listing forever” under “How long should the listing run?”.
Save, and you’re finished in the settings.
Step 3: Create categories to organize your WordPress meet the team page
Do you have different departments in your business?
If not, then feel free to skip this section. But, if you want to be able to sort by each department, this is the section for you.
First, go to Directory → Directory Categories. Then, add, edit, and remove different categories based on your business. The process is similar to adding WordPress categories.

Step 4: Customize the staff directory item fields
Now we want to manage what custom fields are listed for each team member on the search and main page, like managing different post types on a website.
To do this, go to Directory → Manage Form Fields. You can customize the field labels to whatever you want, but we’ll give you some examples from the best team members showcases.
- Change Listing Title to Member Name.
- Change Listing Category to Department.
- Change Short Description to Job Title.
- Keep Description the same.

To start, type your team member’s name into the title box. You can type out a team member bio in the main text box. And the excerpt field will serve as the team member’s job title. Last, choose the department from the category on the sidebar.
